The world is working hard to drastically reduce or eliminate single-use plastics from everyday life.

Before Blistr was founded, we thought that there was an acceptable exception to this - medical waste

We thought that the lives saved in hospital outweighed the necessary evil of producing millions of tonnes of plastic waste, and nothing could really be done about it.

We saw first-hand the amount of plastic sent for disposal every day and we realised - a tiny change made every day, in every hospital, could make a massive difference.

We looked for something small but ubiquitous - that was commonplace in medical settings and at home - as a start point to tackle the medical waste behemoth.

We also noticed that whilst pharmacists are obligated to take back unused medications, to dispose of them properly, no-one ever mentions the packaging.

So, we thought:

If we can change the blister pack, we can change a world of blister packs.

If we can take the plastic out of the blister pack, we can stop plastic from ending up in the ocean. But what do you replace it with? How about something from the ocean?!

It grows real fast, doesn’t need fresh water and can be specially processed to behave much like thermoplastic. Together with an innovative and unique design we have set out to change the world, one pill pack at a time.
